General description

The Human VEGF ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) Kit is an in vitro enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human VEGF in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine.

Immunogen

Recombinant human VEGF-A

Request

For research use only. It should not be used in diagnostic procedures. The human VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) ELISA kit has been used to measure VEGFA levels in human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVEC) incubated with plasma from healthy pregnant and preeclamptic women.

The human VEGF-A ELISA kit has been used to score:

  • VEGF in the human liver hepatoma cell line PLC-PRF-5,
  • Residual cytokines in decellularized meningeal scaffolds (DMS)
  • human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (hPDL)

Biochemical / Physiological Actions

VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a potent angiogenic cytokine. It stimulates the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells. VEGF induces microvascular permeability by improving the function of the vesicular-vacuolar organelle (VVO). VEGF plays a prominent role in both normal and pathologic angiogenesis. Substantial evidence suggests that VEGF is involved in the induction of tumor metastases and intraocular neovascular syndromes.

Increased expression of VEGF causes retinal angiogenesis, therefore, inhibition of VEGF using soluble VEGF receptor chimeric proteins can be considered as a potential therapy for ischemic retinal disease. Polymorphism in VEGF at C (-634) G is associated with diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes. Altered VEGF expression is also associated with rheumatoid arthritis, Graves’ disease, psoriasis, cardiovascular disease, and peripheral limb disease.
